Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Growing up in New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood, Troy Andrews– “Trombone Shorty” –played in brass band parades before his arms were long enough to reach all the positions of the slide. He was a bandleader by age six. Originally attracting attention for his youth, by his teens he was attracting attention for his virtuosity. Now 25, the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has come a long way. He was nominated for a Grammy Award this year—appearing live at the ceremonies– for Backatown which held the #1 position on the Billboard Charts for Jazz and Contemporary Music for nine weeks. Earlier, he performed on a Grammy-winning record with Buckwheat Zydeco and an Oscar-nominated record with Dr. John (an LJF favorite). He has appeared in four episodes of the current HBO series Treme. Andrews also performed on Where Y’Atas part of The Sixth Ward All-Star Brass Band Revue featuring Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers.
