Tom Finn is an alto/tenor saxophonist from Old Chatham, NY. Son of jazz guitarist Joe Finn, he showed an interest in jazz, and the saxophone in particular, at an early age. In high school he was a member of the Empire State Youth Orchestra Jazz Ensemble, his high school big band, and the Manhattan School of Music pre-college big band which included course work in theory, ear-training, private lessons and small ensemble. In high school Tom was a student of Ralph Lalama and received an all state award, future jazz giant award and was featured as junior saxophonist of the month on saxtalk.com.
Currently a junior at New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music on scholarship, he has studied with Rachel Z, Billy Harper, Charlie Persip, Reggie Workman, Chico Hamilton and others. He has performed in NYC at Sweet Rhythm, Joe’s Pub, Lincoln Center, Cachaca and Cleopatra’s Needle. Tom was a student at Litchfield Jazz Camp for many summers and recently became a teaching assistant. He has played with Wycliffe Gordon, David Sanchez, Ralph Lalama, and others. Tom Finn is a serious young musician is passionate about a career in jazz music.
