Teach the Teacher is an innovative program created by the world-renowned Litchfield Jazz Camp to bring its formidable jazz resources to the classroom teacher.  Teach the Teacher is a 2-day workshop designed to help school teachers at all grade levels develop or expand effective strategies for educating their students about America's national music treasure - Jazz!

The Pros

The program is led by saxophonist/composer and Music Director of Litchfield Jazz Camp, Don Braden, and an all-star faculty.  For bios of the entire Jazz Camp faculty and the workshop Master Teachers click here.  They will give you the tools to take your jazz ensembles to the next level or to create a jazz ensemble if you don’t already have one. 

Professional Development

Taking this course may help you accumulate Professional Development credit in your district and will help you meet National Standards in your classroom.  For Connecticut teachers, the course offers 1.2 CEUs.

Lead From the Front

We seek to inspire teachers to "lead from the front"; that is, to participate and show whatever jazz elements they can.  Perhaps that’s not easy for you yet, but we aim to help you become comfortable with demonstrating ideas and techniques.  Most teachers really enjoy the challenge, and the kids love hearing their teachers play.  We know that some of you have very little experience in jazz yourselves.  Others may have quite a bit.  To address this, Teach the Teacher will tailor its instruction to both levels.  The instruction you receive will help you immeasurably to work with small ensembles as well as student jazz big bands.
