Litchfield Jazz Festival and its fans enjoyed 21 years of great jazz this past weekend. The weather was gorgeous both days in spite of dire predictions. We also marked the 20th anniversary of Litchfield Jazz Camp, celebrating with the Scat & Scramble Jazz Brunch fundraiser on Sunday morning. Pictured here are our Founder, Vita Muir, and the talented pianist Brandon Goldberg. Brandon, a 10 year old from Florida, attended camp and played at the Brunch. He is amazingly talented and a sweetheart who we believe will go anywhere he wants when he grows up. His mom Ella took this picture! More »

Guitarist Mike Stern will join us week 4 of camp!
During week 4, legendary guitarist Mike Stern will be visiting Litchfield Jazz Camp for a workshop day at Canterbury School, New Milford CT. The day concludes with a concert that is free and open to the public. Stern has, by popular demand appeared on both the 2014 and 2015 Festival lineups, and we are thrilled to have him this year at camp. More »
IRA charitable rollover permanently extended!
Congress has permanently extended a popular tax-advantaged giving opportunity. The new law allows individuals who are age 70½ or older to make gifts of up to $100,000 directly from their IRA account to one or more qualified charities, WITHOUT PAYING FEDERAL INCOME TAX on the withdrawal. Former LJC camper, current LJC faculty member, and one of the busiest NYC sidemen we know - Caroline Davis will be releasing her new CD on November 6. Caroline is a stunning, Singapore-born soprano saxophone player. On her recording, called Doors: Chicago Storylines, she shares the story of Chicago jazz. The record release party is Thursday Nov. 5th at the Jazz Gallery in NYC. More »

Our bedrock principle is that no child is ever turned away from the Litchfield Jazz Camp for lack of funds. 25% of our campers attend on need-based scholarship and last year, thanks to financial support from people like you, we were able to give $70,000 in aid to these children. The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council will present its 2nd Annual CultureMax Awards, November 17 at the Morrison Gallery in Kent. The awards aim to recognize individuals and businesses who exemplify excellence in the cultural field or serve the cultural community within the Council’s 25-town service area. This weekend is the 20th anniversary of the Litchfield Jazz Festival. The Litchfield Jazz Camp will be performing all weekend on the student stage, and many of the camp faculty will be performing at the main stage over the weekend! Student Stage 2014 Festival Performance Schedule
The full performance schedule for the student stage at the Litchfield Jazz Festival is now online! Click here to view the schedule.

Included in student tuition is a 3-day festival pass for each student, master classes with festival stars and a performance opportunity for each student on a dedicated second stage for our students. Organized Jam Sessions will take place between Main Stage acts all weekend long. The Jam Sessions allow students who attended the camp in Sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4 to perform on the festival. Most students who attend Session 5 will be scheduled to perform with their Session 5 Combo. Session 5 students are also welcome to participate in jam sessions, but priority is given to students whose combos could not be reformed for the festival.

Litchfield Jazz Camp Outreach Concerts at New Milford Nursing Homes
Litchfield Jazz Camp, the 18 year old teaching arm of Litchfield Jazz Festival, has a robust outreach to the wider community. This year three Litchfield Jazz Camp students and RAs, JT Lincoln, Joshua Walker and Sam Dingle, will perform at two nursing homes in New Milford on August 2nd and 5th. WEDNESDAY, JULY 23RD -- A much anticipated feature of Litchfield Jazz Camp each summer is its annual College Fair Night. This event is open free of charge to families throughout the area. Students do not need to be enrolled at LJC to attend. The program is held at Maguire Auditorium at Canterbury School in New Milford, CT, beginning at 7 PM. More »

2014 Camp Internship Available!
Location: New Milford, CT This internship will provide real-life experience in administration and organization of one of the nation's leading summer music camp. Work will include, assisting with student registration, assorted office tasks, generating and formatting reports, working with Excel documents, viewing and manipulating the online student database, and assisting in the organization and set-up of all of the music equipment. Our office relies heavily and places an emphasis on the use of technology to administrate the camp as efficiently as possible. The Jazz Run - September 29th, 2013
Litchfield Performing Arts, the 32-year old charity which benefits the arts and arts education, announces its First Annual Jazz Run fundraiser. This 5mile run/2mile family fun walk happens on September 29 in Goshen, Connecticut. It’s a scenic course through woods (no trafficked roads), past a pond and through the private Woodridge Lake enclave. The course is registered by the U. S. Track and Field Association. More »

Charles Neville, the great saxophonist of the Grammy-winning Neville Brothers and veteran of 35 years of touring and recording with the family ensemble who retired this past year, will share his genius with the students of Litchfield Jazz Camp and the public on Thursday July 25 at Kent School in Kent CT. Wallace Roney Visited Camp and Lifted the Spirits of 91-year-old Clark Terry.
The noted trumpeter Wallace Roney and his Ensemble visited Litchfield Jazz Camp on Friday, August 3 at Kent School. He gave a workshop and performance for more than a hundred jazz campers and the public. But the underlying purpose of his visit was a spirit-lifting campaign to support the iconic 91-year-old trumpeter Clark Terry. More »
Mario Pavone Premieres Two New Works with an 18-Piece Orchestra at Jazz Camp on August 2nd.  The Concert is Free.
Bassist Mario Pavone premieres two new works this Thursday, August 2nd with an 18-piece jazz orchestra made up of Litchfield Jazz Camp Senior Faculty, Teaching Assistants and talented students ages 15 to 72. The concert is part of "Kent has that Jazz," the free series produced by Litchfield Jazz Festival going on now in Kent. More »

Student Stage Festival Performance Schedule Posted
Included in student tuition is a 3-day festival pass for each student, master classes with festival stars and a performance opportunity for each student on a dedicated Student Stage we call our "Gazebo Stage." Organized Jam Sessions will take place between Main Stage acts all weekend long. The Jam Sessions allow students who attended the camp in Sessions 1, 2 and 3 to perform on the festival. Most students who attend Session 4 will be scheduled to perform with their Session 4 Combo. Session 4 students are also welcome to participate in jam sessions, but priority is given to students whose combos could not be reformed for the festival. More »
Guest Artist Jimmy Heath Spends the Day July 28th
NEA Jazz Master, saxophonist Jimmy Heath, is the 2011 Guest Artist. He's slated to spend the day at camp on Thursday, July 28th (Session 3). He'll observe and add his thoughts to classes in the morning, then give a master class for the whole camp in the afternoon. He then returns Sunday, August 7th at the Litchfield Jazz Festival for an Artist Talk with the Festival's Artist-in-Residence, Matt Wilson, AND closes the festival with his Big Band at 7pm that evening. The Marsalis Family, including trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, has been named a 2011 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master. Guitar Legend Pat Martino Just Confirmed as a Guest Aritst
One of the most exciting and virtuosic guitarists in jazz, Pat Martino will join LJC as a special guest artist on Thursday, July 22 (Session 2). He began playing guitar when he was twelve years old and left school in tenth grade to devote himself to music. An amazing career and life, Pat Martino survived a severe brain aneurysm and miraculously returned to music.
