Litchfield Jazz Festival has chosen New Milford native Chris Osborne as the official Visual Artist for 2012. The Litchfield County Times published a feature on Ms. Osborne, her work, and her long relationship with the Jazz Festival in the paper on Friday, July 27th.

It’s been a very good year for New Milford artist Chris Osborne. The artist, known for her Hollywood and jazz and blues series of paintings depicting legends and the cars they loved, was awarded a grant from the Artist Fellowship Program in May by the Connecticut Office of the Arts to support the continuing development of her work in painting.

For years, Ms. Osborne has been working on the history of jazz and blues in visual form, decade by decade, city by city, with the American automobile as a focal point. In her application, the artist said, “I specifically focused on my history of jazz series, which I had started by creating a painting in tribute to Buddy Bolden, considered the founder of jazz at the beginning of the 20th century in New Orleans.”

So it seems only natural that Ms. Osborne was chosen by The Litchfield Jazz Festival to be the official Visual Artist for its 17th annual jazz festival, which makes its triumphant return to the Goshen Fairgrounds Aug. 10-12. Ms. Osborne’s painting of legendary pianist and longtime festival friend, Dave Brubeck, is this summer’s official festival art, reproduced on T-shirts to benefit Litchfield Performing Arts, the not-for-profit parent of the festival and Litchfield Jazz Camp. And if that weren’t enough, Ms. Osborne donated the original painting, autographed by Mr. Brubeck, for the festival’s [live auction on Opening Night, Friday, August 10th].
