Opening Night (Friday, August 8) we’ll bring you this year’s Monk Competition winning vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant and her great band on a double bill with a festival favorite, the great pianist Cyrus Chestnut.
Headlining on Saturday, August 9, we have a man who needs no introduction, the great saxophonist Kirk Whalum and his Gospel According to Jazz. Also on the roster, the 2013 Grammy Nominated, Brussels Jazz Orchestra. You heard them here a few years back with the wonderful pianist Kenny Werner. Brussels has one of the finest rosters of musicians in the world. In our tradition of introducing to American audiences the next great thing (remember Diana Krall, Brad Mehldau, Larry Goldings....?) we bring you the British phenom, vocalist/pianist Anthony Strong. Anthony is positioned to be the next Harry Connick Jr. if itunes sales are any predictor! (Check him out: http://bit.ly/HBTj2C http://bit.ly/HBTj2C. Also on Saturday, you’ll enjoy vocalist Nicole Zuraitis, a favorite hometown- girl-made-good, pianist Carmen Staff, our favorite drummer Matt Wilson, the great bassist Avery Sharpe, trumpeter extraordinaire Claudio Roditi, Saxman Albert Rivera, and more.
Sunday wraps up the festival with worldfamous guitarist Mike Stern, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, a new all woman band from Cuba, Mario Pavone and his Accordion Project, Jimmy Greene, and a special tribute to Django Reinhardt with the debut of the Litchfield Jazz Festival Orchestra, featuring the uber-talented faculty of Litchfield Jazz Camp.
Tickets go on sale in April and are still the best jazz buy around. Family fun, great food, our fabulous Jazz Campers and talks with artists are all on deck! Plan to join us, and get up a group! This is the perfect reunion spot!
