GOSHEN, CT – Earlier this month Litchfield Jazz Camp concluded its 18th summer and its first summer on the campus of Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut. With the move, LJC was able to expand its growing fitness program to include swimming and basketball as well as calisthenics, running, soccer and Frisbee. The elective fitness program was inspired by faculty members for whom physical fitness is paramount for life as touring musicians. This initiative has resulted in students and staff alike adopting healthier lifestyles.
Last year, in the spirit of promoting fitness community-wide, Litchfield Performing Arts, the charity that runs Litchfield Jazz Festival and Litchfield Jazz Camp, launched The Jazz Run, to benefit need-based scholarships to The Jazz Camp. This year’s run is set for Saturday morning, September 13, 2014. The Jazz Run & Family Fun Walk is a 5K followed by an awards ceremony (cash prizes for top runners), picnic (pre-order tasty boxed lunches by Bantam Market or bring your own), and live jazz by Litchfield Jazz Camp faculty and students. The 5K starts at Camp Cochipianee on Beach Street in Goshen promptly at 10 AM with registration from 8:30 – 9:30 am. The course is USATF Certified, involves no exposure to traffic and has pretty views. Strollers are welcome and there will be activities for kids, so bring the whole family! To run or walk the fee is $22 in advance, $27 on race. You're also welcome to pre-order a tasty boxed lunch when you register for $12 (a vegetarian and non-vegetarian option available) or bring your own picnic.
