A Salute to The Great Drummer Charli Persip

Charli Persip’s 40-year mission in jazz includes distinguished residencies with Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Eckstine, as well as gigs and record dates with Tadd Dameron, Frank Foster, Eric Dolphy, Roland Kirk, John Coltrane, among many others. Persip was the drummer on the legendary, “Eternal Triangle” recording, featuring Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt. Concurrent with his performing activities, Charli has earned a reputation as a superb educator. As a teacher Charli ranks among the best. He is currently Associate Professor at the New School of Music in Manhattan, and music instructor for Jazzmobile Inc. and has a highly successful private practice. He is a popular attraction at drum clinics and lecture demonstrations at the nation’s most prestigious schools, such as Howard University, University of Massachusetts, Ohio State University, and North Texas State University. Additional background can be found in Leonard Feather’s Encyclopedia of Jazz, and Marqui’s Who’s who in music. He has been a teaching artist at Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2009.
