Ian Carroll

Drums

Ian Carroll was born in New York City in 1986 to an artist family mere blocks away from the West Village’s most prestigious jazz clubs. Perhaps this foretold what was to come, as he would end up studying the Jazz drum set at Purchase College with John Riley, Kenny Washington, and Richie Morales. While still in school, his playing began attracting the attention of his professors, and he began gigging with Ralph Lalama and Doug Munro, as well as earning the drum chair in the Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra. Upon graduating in 2008, Ian began a full-time career as an in-demand drummer, supporting himself fully through music with a plethora of freelance gigs.

Currently, Ian leads his own trio every Saturday afternoon at the Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, NY, and is the house drummer on Wednesday nights at the Alley Cat Amateur Theatre under the Beekman Hotel for the popular New York nightlife event House Jazz, an innovative collaboration between DJ’s and live musicians. Ian is a faculty musician for the dance programs at SUNY Purchase and New York University New Studio on Broadway and also very much enjoys the opportunities he gets to help educate young musicians at Litchfield Jazz Camp and throughout his private teaching practice.
