Mario Pavone and Jimmy Greene are both veterans of Connecticut's jazz scene -- having grown up here, decades apart -- and both deciding to make the state their home. There's a silver lining in the Brussels Jazz Orchestra's withdrawal from the Litchfield Jazz Festival lineup: It opened up a spot for legendary trombonist Curtis Fuller, who'll perform in the Saturday 3:30 p.m. time slot. I don't use the term "legend" lightly: in addition to recording more than 30 albums as a bandleader, Fuller — a one-time member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers — played on John Coltrane's "Blue Train," Yusef Lateef's "Jazz For the Thinker," Jackie McLean's "A Long Drink of the Blues" and countless other recordings, including nine albums with Blakey released between 1961 and '64.
