“ ‘McCoy’ …sizzles with Tyner like…speed, flair and intricacy. Even more impressive is his take on Thelonious Monk’s “Well, You Needn’t,” which under Goldberg’s adroit and nimble fingers evokes Bud Powell…”— Downbeat, Herb Boyd, August 2019
This review of the 4-Star debut album, Let’s Play, by Miami native, Brandon Goldberg, appeared in the largest-circulation jazz magazine in the world. The prodigy pianist who began playing at age 3 made this recording at 12, producing and arranging it and composing three of the tunes included. His second release came out Sept 30th this year with an all-star band and half the ten tunes his originals.
In the summer of 2016, a tiny 10-year-old Goldberg began attending Litchfield Jazz Camp.
Flash forward five years, Brandon Goldberg, has already performed at the Newport, Litchfield and Caramoor Jazz Festivals, and renowned jazz venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s, Birdland Theatre, The Blue Note, Mezzrow, The Apollo, and Baltimore’s Keystone Korner. He released his second record, In Good Time, to a sold-out crowd this September 30, once again at Dizzy’s.
On October 22, Brandon Goldberg will open the second season of Litchfield Jazz Presents, a live-stream series from Telefunken Soundstage. Founded last year by Litchfield Jazz Festival in the face of a pandemic, the program has become an ongoing part of Litchfield’s offerings and, with enthusiastic support from fans and friends, its free.
Brandon, who is honoring the music of Cole Porter here, will be joined by bassist Mark Lewandowski, a product of Juilliard’s Artist Diploma Ensemble and London’s Guildhall and drummer Jimmy Macbride. Jimmy, a Connecticut native, is also a Juilliard grad who has appeared with Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis and others, and at the Monterey, North Sea, Newport and Litchfield Jazz Festivals. Jimmy, like Brandon, was a Litchfield Jazz Camper and started even younger: he was 9! The concert begins at 7:30.
The concert will be streamed live and can be accessed on the Litchfield Jazz Festival Homepage, Facebook Page, or YouTube Channel.
