LPA & Milton Music Present Charlie Sigler Trio an Oscar Peterson Tribute

Join us on May 10th when Milton Music and Litchfield Jazz present an afternoon of music celebrating the genius and artistry of piano legend Oscar Peterson.  Peterson — dubbed “the Maharaja of the Keyboard” by Duke Ellington — is widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, with a career that spanned more than 60 years and over 200 recordings. In 1974, Peterson won the Grammy Award for The Trio. Recorded live, it won Best Jazz Performance  and stands as one of the crowning achievements of his career. What made The Trio so special was its unconventional instrumentation. Rather than the standard piano-bass-drums format, Peterson performed alongside guitarist Joe Pass and bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen— creating an intimate, swinging sound that felt both elegant and adventurous.

Now, that same spirit comes to Litchfield. Charlie Sigler on guitar, Jeb Patton on piano— the Church’s 1898 Steinway— , and Ahmed McLemore on bass will bring this beloved album to life in an intimate, acoustically excellent setting for the perfect tribute to an album that has moved jazz lovers for more than 50 years. Charlie Sigler has played with legendary jazz artists Christian McBride, Slide Hampton, and drummers Billy Hart, Lenny White, and Winard Harper, among others. Jeb Patton has had a long and storied career working with The Heath Brothers, The Village Vanguard Big Band, the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars, bassist David Wong, drummer Jimmy Cobb of Kind of Blue fame, and great singers like Etta Jones, Jessye Norman, and Barbara Cook, to name a few. Bassist Ahmed McLemore, while just a “kid” in this distinguished group and fresh out of Oberlin Conservatory, has already appeared with some of the best in jazz, including Mark Whitfield, Terrell Stafford, Pasquale Grasso, Eric Alexander, Jerome Jennings and many others.

The concert begins at 3:00 PM at the historic (1791) Milton Congregational Church, 548 Milton Road, Litchfield, CT. A reception follows. Don’t miss the chance to meet the artists and enjoy exquisite baked goods created for your pleasure by Milton members.
