Recognizing 25 years of LJC

Thursday, July 26th. So glad I decided to pick up the mail today. A very pleasant surprise was waiting. In an unprepossessing manila envelope was a beautiful, ready-to-frame certificate honoring Litchfield Jazz Camp in its 25th year. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes from Connecticut’s 5thDistrict had arranged for “Special Congressional Recognition” to be presented to Litchfield Jazz Camp. As its founder, chief cook and bottlewasher, and uber-booster all these years, I was delighted to have us receive this recognition. It was completely unbidden, and best of all, the folks who prepared this honor “got it.” They really did. Here’s what it said:

“In celebration of 25 years dedicated to fostering an educational jazz program for young people all over the world. Since opening in 1997, Litchfield Jazz Camp has maintained a noble commitment to noncompetitive admission and need-based scholarships. These principles ensure that eager musicians from all backgrounds may have the opportunity to learn from professionals and cultivate their talents. Congratulations on this impressive milestone, and best of luck in years to come.”

Well, that made my week!—VWM
