Jazz & Friends – April 24th

Date Posted: Apr 15, 2016

Tickets are still available for An Afternoon of Jazz & Friends, Sunday April 24. This wonderful party and concert benefits Litchfield Jazz Camp’s need-based scholarships. Music is provided by Litchfield Jazz Camp instructors, top students, and two Monk Competition finalists, vocalist Veronica Swift and bassist Daryl Johns. Daryl will appear on this summer’s Litchfield Jazz Fest with pianist Orrin Evans and drummer Steve Johns – yes, his dad. (Steve was a member of the Trio of the late, great Dr. Billy Taylor.) Bet he’ll sit in if we ask him nicely! Veronica will appear at the 2017 Festival. The party is at a breathtaking home in South Kent, CT. Call 860-361-6285 for more information, or Click Here!

On Sunday, April 24th, Bob and Carol Lenz once again open their home for you with great music and the chance to help Litchfield Jazz Camp support students with financial need to attend this summer’s sessions at Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. Click through to learn more or order tickets.

You arrive at 2 pm to a splendid reception at one of the loveliest estates in Litchfield County, followed by a showcase of talented jazz campers and jazz camp all-stars.  Next, host of CT Public Radio’s Where We Live, John Dankosky, will auction a few cool collectibles – including a rare (one of only 2 remaining) framed poster from the very first Litchfield Jazz Festival in 1996 by award winning watercolor artist, Frank Federico. Then you will have the treat of hearing a jazz camp all-star band led by saxophonist Albert Rivera, followed by two young, extraordinary musicians, both finalists in the Thelonious Monk Competition, singer Veronica Swift and bassist Daryl Johns. Daryl’s dad, the renowned drummer Steve Johns, longtime member of the Billy Taylor Trio, will sit in. Meet old friends, make new ones and have a wonderful afternoon.
